Richard Reid was a guest speaker today at the Survive and Thrive symposium in Auckland, a ‘smart-thinking’ event for artists, creators, innovators and entrepreneurs. Richard was invited to address the theme ‘For a Better World: Audacious Dreams’, focusing on his role as problem finder, creative entrepreneur and public intellectual in his development and promotion of alternative solutions to destructive city proposals.
Richard’s talk “Investment in our Sixth Sense” emphasised his practice’s critical engagement with the city is not to question public processes. It is to open the city to an alternative reality, another city in the making. “We are motivated by our design ideas. We trust our creativity and our experience of the world and we possess a unique skillset and track record. Cities see the sense in investing in us.”
