Richard Reid
Richard Reid
graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Auckland in
1988.
From 1990-93 he worked with Neville
Gruzman, the eminent Sydney architect, landscape architect
and urban designer. This experience was instrumental in Richard developing the
art of creating
space, the sensitivity necessary for the design of landscape and the value of
city living and building.
In 1992 Richard co-curated a retrospective of Neville’s work and assisted in
editing a book of his
writings.
From 1995-96 Richard worked in London with Colin
St. John Wilson on the British Library, one of the
most important and largest public buildings built in Britain in the 20th century.
Richard designed the
urban space for the final stage of the project. During this time he also travelled
extensively through
Europe.
Since returning to New Zealand in 1997, Richard has completed a Bachelor of
Landscape Architecture,
mainly to understand the natural and social environments
of Aotearoa. He established his own practice
in 2001. Richard has taught part-time at the School of Architecture and Planning,
University of Auckland
since 2003. He has actively contributed to community
and environmental groups, in particular the
Auckland Volcanic Cones Society (2003-07) and Ngataringa
Bay Society (2007-2011).
