An aerial view of the Waikaraka Cycleway - Mt Roskill Cone Section has been updated on Google Earth and Google Maps. This shows our project’s gradual immersion into the sensitive heritage environment of Puketapapa Mt Roskill Volcano since its construction in 2010. 

The photo illustrates the project’s symbiotic relationship with the re-contoured volcano. The path’s graceful, sinuous line and distinctive indigenous landscape markings are in stark contrast to the generic motorway landscape which was originally intended to slice straight through the volcano. 

Persistent activism from the Auckland Volcanic Cones Society, a reconsidered approach by Transit NZ, inclusive leadership from Auckland City Council and a unique collaboration between Ngati Whatua o Orakei and our practice created this positive alternative outcome.
