Devonport Peninsula Precinct Society has announced it will appeal the majority decision of hearing commissioners who approved Ryman Healthcare’s proposed retirement village in Devonport. Ryman’s application was heard under new Unitary Plan rules for special precincts which enable a greater height and scale of development so long as the proposal does not create adverse visual and dominance effects.

DPPS believes it does. DPPS has engaged Richard Reid to act as its urban design expert through the Environment Court process. DPPS will use the evidence prepared by Richard, which the dissenting commissioner preferred to Ryman’s, as the basis for its appeal. Court mediation has been set for 30 March.
