The New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects has published a celebratory book showcasing the
contribution of key landscape projects to the country over the past 50 years.

Our Auckland City CBD Public Artwork Development Plan, which won the NZILA Charlie Challenger
Supreme Planning Award in 2006, is featured. Lee Taylor writes “Richard Reid was a man ahead of
his time”, with his vision and recommendations prefiguring central city masterplans started over a
decade later.

The judges stated at the time “This work is an important contribution to the future of Auckland. In the
overall award objectives it rates very highly, encouraging best practice application and quality in New
Zealand.” The judges commended Auckland City Council for commissioning and supporting the
strategy.
