Richard Reid & Associates has played a key role in protecting eighteen hectares of nationally rare and critically threatened native gumland vegetation in Waikumete Cemetery through the Auckland Unitary Plan process.

In the Independent Hearing Panel recommendations published today, the IHP supported a joint submission from Richard Reid, Ewen Cameron (President, Auckland Botanical Society), Dr Mark Bellingham (ecologist and planner), Geoff Davidson (Oratia Native Plant Nursery) and Graham Resnick (former Cemetery Manager) which requested the whole area of native gumland vegetation should continue to be mapped as a significant ecological area.

Richard Reid has been working since 1999 to protect the unique native gumland vegetation of Waikumete Cemetery.
